Desoto Falls and Helton Creek Falls

If you want short but beautiful hikes in the N GA mountains….involving two separate streams that produce a series of waterfalls…..that are right down the road from each other…..and are kid/knee friendly……..look no further than Desoto Falls and Helton Creek Falls. This journey is a total word! Both hikes are very easy to conquer and can be seen in a short period of time…though I would recommend chilling on the lookouts provided and enjoy the view. Here are some images from my last visit. Directions are below photos.

Desoto Falls Trail

From Buford take 985N for roughly 27mi                                                                                   Take Exit 24  to US 129N and continue for 53 mi                                                                     Once you reach the US 129N and US 19N junction at Turners Corner, the trailhead is 4 mi further north on the left. (STAY ON 129/19N!) There is a cheap trail fee for this one.

Helton Creek Falls

Leaving the Desoto Falls Trailhead return to 129/19N and yup….continue North for about 3.5 mi                                                                                                                                     Take a right at Helton Creek Rd and continue for 2.2 mi. Now the road gets very narrow and rocky and you start thinking you are lost in the middle of woods! But don’t worry. You are not. Keep on and you will find the trailhead on the right. To get back to US 129/19N-S…just turn around and go back the way you came. Enjoy!
